$2.225 Million Verdict

Carla Gray was bitten and seriously injured after dog attacked her in 2021. The case went to trial and a Kittitas County jury awarded over $2.225 million in damages to Ms. Gray. Stritmatter Law attorneys Gemma Zanowski and Lisa Benedetti tried the case.

Brandon Alexander kept the large dog locked away in his home. The dog had a history of aggression toward people and animals. In 2019, the dog broke out of his room and bitten another guest. Grant County Animal Control impounded the dog, investigated, and released the dog back to Alexander and his girlfriend Heidi Estes, without following Grant County’s dangerous dog laws.

On Thanksgiving Day 2021, Carla Gray was invited to cook dinner in Brandon Alexander’s home. She was staying on a trailer on Alexander’s property temporarily. Estes brought the dog down to use the bathroom, and allowed Ms. Gray to feed Hemi a treat. The dog took the treat and then attacked and bit Ms. Gray on the arm, breaking her arm and causing serious injuries.

Stritmatter Law sued Grant County and the dog owners.

After the lawsuit was filed, the Court ruled that Grant County was liable as a matter of law for failing to permanently remove the dog from the County in 2019:
