George Piano had acute appendicitis and needed to have his appendix removed by surgeons at the University of Washington. Instead of removing his appendix, the UW surgeons involved removed a portion of his colon. This was, of course, negligence. He had to be operated on several days later to repair the perforations: and to actually remove his appendix. As a result of the negligence, George underwent eight additional procedures and had to have a colostomy bag in place on two separate occasions.
