Nursing Home / Daycare Abuse
"The test of a civilization is the way that it cares for its helpless members." ~ Pearl S. Buck
Abuse and neglect of the elderly and vulnerable continues to be a major problem in America. Many victims are unable to report abuse and neglect because of their mental state, because they are too weak or because they are afraid of retaliation. Elder abuse and neglect can result in both physical and mental injuries. In many cases, nursing home injuries are preventable and are the result, in whole or in part, of specific abuse or neglect. Nursing home professionals have a duty to provide a standard of care and quality of life to each patient under their care.
Examples of elder abuse and neglect include the following:
- Bed sores
- Broken or fractured bones
- Improper restraints
- Physical abuse
- Over medication
- Failure to clean and bathe
- Stealing money and property
- Failure to provide adequate food and liquids
- Failure to change sheets, adult undergarments, bandages
- Injuries from falling
- Undue influence concerning property and/or wills
